Oracle Systems Administrator Summary:
The System Administrators role is to administer Oracle E-Business and related Oracle applications running on Unix, Linux, or Windows systems. This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.
ACQUISITION & Strategy
Coordinate with various teams to implement the systems utilizing industry best practices.
Install and configure Oracle related applications.
Participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for the systems.
ORACLE AND SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION
Create & Maintain Oracle users.
Create and maintain AOL objects (responsibility, profiles etc).
Maintain application printers.
Administer the concurrent managers (creation, setup, load balancing etc.).
Assist with the code migration process.
Review and deploy application releases and vendor-supplied patches according to best practices.
Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on all systems.
Recommend and execute modifications to systems in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.
Assist in the research of hardware and software in support of procurement and system development efforts.
Follow established processes for configuration and release management.
Create Unix and Linux shell scripts.
OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT
Implement policies, procedures, and technologies to ensure the system security through secure system access, monitoring, control, and routine security evaluations.
Perform standard configuration, management, and maintenance tasks for related file systems, input/output systems, networking, clustering, storage, and applications.
Perform and test system configuration backups and restores to ensure system recovery from error or outage.
Support application development teams throughout project lifecycles.
Monitor, test, and tune system performance; preserve and provide system log files as needed.
Develop, document, and maintain system training materials and documentation for knowledge transfer to new IT staff.
Lead and provide guidance to junior members of the team.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Specific knowledge of Unix, Linux, and Windows platforms is required.
Specific knowledge on Process states in Unix/Linux, Unix/Linux system calls for I/O, static and dynamic libraries, NFS, RPMs and network monitoring tools are required.
Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining the Oracle applications on Unix, Linux, and Windows servers, networks, and clusters.
Hands-on hardware and software troubleshooting experience.
Working technical knowledge of coding using Perl, C, shell scripting, etc.
Good technical knowledge of current network hardware and standards and sound knowledge in network monitoring tools such as ntop, tcpdump, traceroute, etc.
At least 2 years experience with implementation or upgrade projects.
Application support experience with Oracle E-Business.
Familiarity with TCP/IP protocols and database administration.
Experience with version control tools like PVCS Tracker, Visual Source Safe, Remedy, etc.
