Ladies In Waiting, a Douglas County group mentoring program, is pleased to offer a program that targets girls in the 8th- 12th grades. Our mission is to enrich & empower the lives of girls, by offering exposure to practical areas that include educational assistance, etiquette & manners, sisterhood, cultural growth and recreation. Our program also promotes abstinence from sex & the prevention of drug use, smoking & violence. As well as assist the girls in building character and self- esteem.
Ladies In Waiting is specifically designed to achieve the following goals:
* Increase the number of girls who attend college
* Increase Physical Activity & Healthy Eating Habits
* Decrease the number of teen age pregnancies
* Decrease the use of drugs and alcohol
* Decrease violent behavior and association with gang activity
Enrollment applications are available on the website with the deadline extending this year to May 30th, which also happens to be the last day of school for Douglas County, or until all slots are filled. Parents and teen girls who are interested in becoming apart of this growing program may visit the website to view photos of what has taken place so far, and get answers to any questions they may have. Roundtable rap sessions are still being held in Douglas County, and “Jewels” are representing various public and private high schools in the Douglas and Paulding county areas.
