The newly-formed Atlanta Feminist Book Club is a discussion group dedicated to continuing the conversation of feminist theory and literature. We are a forum for those who wish to educate themselves on specific issues in feminism, as well as converse with others with the same interests.

We meet monthly to discuss various aspects of feminism in the printed word. Topics include: women's rights; oppression of women in various cultures; the biological/social roles of women; women in relationships; cross-cultural evalutations of women's liberation; trans-genderism; development of girls into women; women in past, present, and future.

Our reading sources come from psychologists, philosophers, novelists, anthropologists, etc., as well as magazine articles, essays, poetry, and newspaper clippings. One month we may read a whole book, while another we may read a collection of mass-media articles on women's issues.

The purpose of this group is to converse freely and respectfully on women's issues. This is not an activism group. This group is created to be an intellectual forum in which to learn many diverse beliefs, and to create for ourselves an individual understanding of feminism. As such, we are not limited to female members. We welcome members of every sex, gender orientation, sexual orientation, political group, etc. We are proud of our diversity, for in diversity of beliefs we can sharpen, adjust, and strengthen our own beliefs.

Examples of authors: Simone de Beauvoir, Virginia Woolf, Ann Coulter, Rita Mae Brown, Erik Erikson, Alice Walker, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Phyllis Schlafly, Betty Friedan, Kate Millet, John Stuart Mill, and more. We select literature in a democratic fashion, once every three months.

There are no membership dues, but if we meet in a coffeeshop or restaurant we ask that members purchase something from that establishment to help support the business that is supporting us.

Until our membership reaches a certain point, we are delaying meetings. Please contact Quinn at feministatlanta@gmail.com to show interest and be added to our mailing list. Also include which days of the week are best for you (so that we may determine the best day of the month to hold our meetings), and, if desired, a statement of interest so that we might find the most democratic approach to selecting literature.

Thank you.
