My last band was really awesome, but I had to move on because some priorities of the other members weren't really in order. Originally from San Diego, I've been in ATL for almost 10 yrs now. Salut,
I'm new to the Atlanta area and am interested in finding a few guys to play with and maybe start a band. I play guitar and synth as well, but I would like to find someone to play guitar so I don't always need to play. Drummer. Bassist. I don't expect for anyone to be at the top of their game by any means, I know I'm not =0 But, it would be cool for the guitarist to be versatile and know how to use some out there tunings. Drummer to be really tight and have a nice sounding ride haha. And for the bass player to be able to not only hold the rhythm, but also be capable of doing some cool background fills. If I come off as wanting too much, don't hesitate to reply anyway. These are just idealistic. I listen to a variety of music; bands such as Metric, The Sounds, Ladyhawke, Third Eye Blind, U2, No Doubt, Ultra Orange et Emmanuelle, Blondie, etc etc. I primarily get around (okay, almost exclusively) via the metro, so it's a huge advantage if I can find some people here in Atlanta or close enough.
Anyway... I wanted to make an attempt at posting something with a lot of information because I really would like to find some people to play with ! Age isn't a huge factor, but I would think 17 or 18 to mid twenties would be good. Not necessarily wanting to target a certain age crowd; just don't want one of these little guys that are thirteen replying.

I'm looking to start a band that can play in a wide range of genres and venues.

I personally have played upright and elctric bass for many years. I will be graduating soon with a degree in music performance.
I have a lot of experience playing jazz, and have also played in metal, oldies and classic rock, and ska cover bands and in the college orchestra. I love a wide variety of music; ska, reggae, classical, jazz, metal, soul and motown, latin, rock and roll, world, etc...

I would like to put together a group that can play a wedding or party gig doing jazz, oldies, motown, etc, but can also play a hard rock set at the masquerade, or could do a country or blues thing if a gig comes up.

To start out we need to put together a solid rhythm section- drums, guitar, keyboard. I want people who really know jazz and classic soul, but who like a wide range of music, to form the core of the group.
I would like to add about a 4 piece horn section if we can get the people.
Eventually I would like to work out some original material, but the first thing is getting the people together, working up some standards and covers and getting gigs.

As far as the newer music, I like a lot of lesser-known, sort of ecclectic bands. Flogging Molly, Streetlight Manifesto, Of Montreal, Gogol Bordello, Miyavi, The Fratellis, Mucc, Feist, Man Man, Etc...
