Junior Writer, Jrnlst., Intern–to-Paid, Collg.Stdnt. OK, AD IS CURRENT (ATLANTA AREA)

Junior Writer, Journalist, Intern–to-Paid, College Students OK, Ad Current
If this ad is still on the list it is still valid. It is not late to apply.
Part-time. Work your hours, your place.
Intern writer/journalist position open for persons who want to put their writing talent in a real commercial environment.
May be you always wanted to write and your articles, essays to be seen. You wanted to see your name (or your pen name) known as a talented contributor to magazines, columns. May be you have been caught in too much studying or working that bill-paying job and never had a chance to show what you can in writing. Maybe you just finished your English / writing / journalism / media related course at college and want to get to do something in the real world. May be you are still studying in that field. May be you are following your ambitions in another profession and career but writing is something you wanted to do on the side as a way of expressing your creative side. May be you are in entertainment and want to let the world know about your world – artists you work with, venues you know, bands you follow. May be you already write successfully but you need more display for your masterpieces.
If, so this might be an opportunity for you as a writer with a starting online publication.
We are a start up looking for writers on Atlanta entertainment and recreation topics who will not be paid now but will get a share of revenue (not profit, i.e. we do not need to be profitable for you to get paid) in the near future based on your specific commercial contribution. So a successful candidate will be somebody who wants to associate themselves with the growth of a starting media brand.
Responsibilities at this position.
While quality, talent-displaying writing might be your only satisfactory quality for this position you should consider these expectations from you on the position:
-	Work with management and editor to generate, select topic ideas; while future different topic domains may be available for you now the open topic area is “Atlanta area entertainment and recreation” – shows (in any art but music is dominating), indie music, bands, small stages, local artist, comedy, fashion, photography, crafts, food and drinks, night life, sports.
-	Research your topic – facts, opinions, commentaries, interview subjects of needed, gather non-text media material: photo, video.
-	Write your article; while expression/writing talent is the ultimate virtue looked for, you need to be productive to fall in the commercial interests of the publication for your position to last; a minimum of one article per week will be a good norm; your productivity will be one thing that will increase your chances of turning this in to a paid opportunity.
-	Cooperate with editorial management to review your work and take it to publishable form.
-	Accept training, instruction on promotion of your work; this is an online publication; promotion of the subjects covered and your own work is of paramount importance for success and for making this a paid opportunity for you. While you being a talented and interesting writer might be enough for you to qualify for bringing this to a paid opportunity for you it will help you if you are active on promoting your work. The publication is doing it’s part to do that too.
-	Communicate efficiently with editorial team. This by importance should have been first. Report on work progress and planned new work. Though this is totally part-time, on your time, at-your-place involvement you will need to dedicate enough time to review and answer communication (email, phone, eventually meetings in person). Maybe as a norm you should be able to at least once in a week day check and respond emails along your position opportunities.
The position is ideal (that’s not a limitation) for college students or college age people, not necessarily writing/journalism major, not necessarily with a lot of commercial writing experience but with a lot of passion, determination, inspiration to write, discipline (able to dedicate time to train and work), some business practices awareness.

Just to emphasize on our topic area "sweet spot": entertainment, live music, bands, clubs, bars, food. So the position is ideal for someone not only who wants to be a good writer but possibly with personal enthusiasm to Atlanta night life, music, indie music, popular night clubs, concerts, etc. Strong preference in your writing style to one particular art (music etc.) style, life style will not be considered a plus. You will need the journalistic type generalist in you here. Promoters (party, clubs) and the kind may combine efforts for their business with this writing engagement.

Required abilities, skills, qualifications
Since we expect for this position applicant who are not necessarily established a lot of skills will/can be built while on the position but still some are expected or desired for you to have now:
- natural willingness to write; this positions is not for somebody who has not been inspired to write before and expects to be convinced in that this might be a job; even if you have nothing to show as writing experience/portfolio you should have at some point decided to write your own, commentaries, analysis, long explanations on a topic, successful school work (!), work that could have been readable publicly. If you have not done this it will probably be very difficult for you to get this position or if you get it to be good at it.
- write well - grammatically and stylistically; in the process of application we may ask you to send current work or write trial work on a topic;
- be efficiently communicative at work; though most of the work you can do at your own hours, and place you will be required to communicate well (mainly email) with managers and other staff, potentially peers, report on work progress; this is one skill that may not come naturally to the artistic, day-dreaming type, and that is appreciated - though the position is very creative and can be related to "freelance" style work, we specifically expect you to be more of a business type, business oriented person at this position, committed to the success of the brand; the one aspect this position is very different from freelance work is that you will need to show relatively constant dedication with certain amount of work, and, or amount of material delivered;
- manage your time well, dedicate time to work etc.; refer to the point above;
- your work is going to be publicly available and you will be covering real events, facts and places (some room for fiction writing available in some subject areas); though you can use a pen name (alias, pseudonym) you have to be publicly engaged and responsible; your articles are going to be reviewed and screened before publication but you still have to work with the expectation that your work is going to be publicly available; the value of controversy not critiqued here, the publication(s) you will be writing for is factoid oriented as opposed to opinion oriented so there will be less room for judging and assessing and more for reporting and commenting;
- some expectation, though not critical, for you to be a self promoter; i.e. this position is work for a media brand; you will do better at this position if you are able, to publicize and make famous your work and the brand you will be working under/for.
- be willing to work and enthusiastic about working with a young brand that will be about popularity and coolness, and see the future opportunities for someone who started early with the brand; this is very critical for you success;

Additional non-critical qualities that will give you an advantage:
- interest in, and understanding of advertising, the media business industry and business in general; we are a commercial, for-profit media brand so your business acumen can show here;
- skills in using the internet social networks for event and news promotion;
- you being interesting and popular person; remember this is not a requirement; we realize writing and creativity sometimes go very well with the introvert types;
- sense of humor; we thought we should put this as an absolute requirement but it will be hard to assess in the application process, so let see how this goes ...

Benefits
- grow with a young brand and potentially grasp lead (manager, editor, business manager) opportunities or simply make your name as a famous writer;
- skills building;
- building a portfolio of visible, commercial work for future reference;
- potential paid work – it will be a mistake if you apply for this opportunity with he expectation to be paid in the first weeks or months; save yourself time and effort and look elsewhere – Atlanta has some of the world’s biggest names in media.
Your success is our success so you will be supported all the way if you show potential.

If interested please submit resume and cover letter along the lines of this ad.
