Prior to WW2 Kung Fu was taught only to select students in a disciplined manner. In modern times martial arts and Kung Fu in particular have been modified as a business, as a sport, and as an exercise program. These are not necessarily bad changes, but clearly these things alter the character of the arts. Kung Fu is more than flowery movements and acrobatics. Real Kung Fu is scientific and practical. The movements look different than boxing or kickboxing for reasons that are logical and easily understandable.
Kung Fu benefits men and women equally. Kung Fu uses correct anatomical structure rather than strength and timing rather than speed. It develops quick reflexes, calmness under stress, a clear mind and a confident attitude. Being prepared to handle physical conflict helps us handle the other lesser conflicts we face daily in our modern society.
