Very clean 1940s writing desk by Simmons in the style of Norman Bel Geddes. Bel Geddes designed some furniture for Simmons in the late 1930s and the company continued making similar pieces into the 1940s. Most of them are attributed to Bel Geddes though he only designed the pieces from the late 30s. This desk is most likely a Simmons design from the 40s but it's hard to say. One full-sized drawer and a storage shelf on the side, out of sight. Rare square drawer pulls (original). Most that you will find are round.
Very good condition. The blue paint is not original, but the cream-colored drawer paint is. The metal is in excellent shape - sturdy, no rust, no dents. I thought about repainting it but decided to let the buyer refinish it however they choose. It can be stripped to polished steel and lacquered (a popular look), or stripped and powder coated for a perfect finish in whatever color combination you choose. Overall good condition for something that is 75-80 years old.
Very nice piece to compliment your industrial age decor. Not quite mid-century modern, but will work in an eclectic home. I've enjoyed it for years and now it's your turn.
