Bonnie and Clyde are livestock guardian dogs. They guard sheep and goats in a pasture a few miles from our farm. They are devoted to their sheep and goats and never leave them. However, we believe a big thunderstorm during the night scared them. When we went to feed and check on them in the morning, we noticed a big hole that was dug under the fence.
They escaped via the hole and ran several miles from their home pasture. We just bought collars with their names and our phone number on them but had not yet put them on the dogs. So we reached out to them to notify our community that they were on the run. We received over 25 calls and messages with information on Bonnie and Clyde sightings.
With the help of these sightings, we were able to track and locate them. It is heartwarming that people take the time out of their busy lives to respond to the alerts and even more amazing, the number of people who emailed or called to tell us that they were very happy that we were reunited with Bonnie and Clyde. Timing is critical when livestock guardian dogs are on the run – they can run for several miles and have difficulty navigating their journey home.
