Up for sale is my well-loved and well-played 1954 Gibson LG-2. The LG-2 has long been one of Gibson’s most beloved small-body acoustics, known for its X-bracing, warm balanced tone, and comfortable size compared to a dreadnought.
This particular guitar is very much a player’s instrument. It’s not a collector-grade piece. Ot shows plenty of honest wear, heavy finish checking, and repaired cracks. It came to me in pretty bad shape, but it has been given a full round of professional restoration work to make sure it’s stable, resonant, and ready for decades of playing. All work was completed by Evan Collins of Overhaul Guitars in Athens, GA, and includes:
- Multiple brace reglues, including a broken X-brace and tone bar repairs
- Top and back crack repairs, including center seam
- Fret dress, nut work, and new compensated saddle
- General structural stabilization throughout
Total work invested: ~$1,000.
I also had a K&K Pure Mini pickup professionally installed, so it’s stage-ready with a natural, full sound through an amp or PA.
The guitar currently has reproduction tuners, no neck crack repairs, and plays with comfortable action. It has all the vintage Gibson mojo you’d expect: woody mids, punchy bass, and a dry, articulate top end. And you can be confident that it’s been gone over thoroughly.
Comes in the original black tortoiseshell chipboard case.
If you’re looking for a collector’s museum piece, this isn’t it. If you’re after a true mid-’50s Gibson that plays beautifully, records well, and has all the scars and stories of a guitar that’s been out in the world, this is the one.
