In celebration of what would have been John Lennon's 75th birthday, Martin Guitar proudly presents the D-28 John Lennon 75th Anniversary Edition—a true collector’s masterpiece, with only 75 instruments ever made.
Built in the iconic 14-fret dreadnought style, this guitar features a VTS (Vintage Tone System) Adirondack spruce top for rich tonal depth and aged character. The solid Madagascar rosewood back and sides are meticulously bookmatched, delivering deep, resonant bass tones, while the back showcases a striking HD-28-style “zig-zag” peace sign marquetry inlay.
A genuine black ebony fingerboard and belly bridge add to the instrument’s luxurious feel, and the Madagascar rosewood headplate features John Lennon’s iconic self-portrait, inlaid beneath the classic Martin script logo in vibrant shell.
Lyrically inspired design elements run throughout the guitar:
“The moon, the stars, and the sun” (from Instant Karma)
The symbolic number “9” (Revolution 9, #9 Dream, etc.)
Lennon’s signature round glasses
His name, inlaid in mother of pearl between the 19th and 20th frets
The custom pickguard features a radiant sun inlay (a nod to Sun King and Here Comes the Sun), crafted from mother of pearl with sun rays stretching toward the rosette, which itself is circled by nearly two dozen pearl peace signs set against a black background.
