This is a pair of RCAI Multi Podus boots, which, as you can see in the pictures above, are no longer new (but have just been re-washed). According to the RCAI website, a Multi Podus boot is:
“an effective, systematic treatment of foot drop, hip rotation, and pressure sores due to illness, trauma, or immobility.”
My father wore these because he had serious open sores on the back of both heels as a result of NOT being turned properly in a hell-hole of a rehab facility after breaking his pelvis. These boots prevented any pressure, from socks or shoe leather or whatever else normally comes in contact with the feet, from touching the tissue-paper thin skin at his heels, whether he was standing up, sitting in a chair, or lying in bed. After about 9 months, the sores healed and he could graduate to soft socks and rubbery clogs.
According to RCAI’s website, these things come in various sizes, but I can’t see any indication of a size on these boots. However, when still able to wear normal shoes, my father wore size 11 so it’s likely that these boots are large or extra large. There’s almost no wear on the treads, but he WAS able to (and did) walk with them, although he had to use a walker or rollator. He just walked extremely slowly and mostly indoors which may be why there’s so little apparent wear, at least on the bottoms.
If a doctor has said that either you or a loved one needs to wear Multi Podus boots and your insurance company just says "No!", these, as ratty as they appear to be, may be helpful.
My house is about two miles from Northside Hospital (close to where GA-400 and the northern arc of I-285 meet) and about a mile to the east of Roswell Road.
