1999 vintage Trek 800 women's 24-speed bike in beautiful condition(looks brand new). It has been completely overhauled. Great bike for city or gravel riding. These older Trek "all terrain bikes", with chrome-moly frames and Shimano components, were made to last a lifetime, not like bikes you see in big-box stores.

The bike has new stainless steel cables, new cable housings, and new internal ball bearings. It was completely disassembled, cleaned, and rebuilt, piece by piece. The bike rides nice and smooth. Everything works perfectly.

The bike has a 17" frame measured from the bottom bracket to the top of the seat tube. A rider around 5'2 to 5'7 or so should fit fine.

All the components and the drivetrain were removed, deep-cleaned, and adjusted. The fork was removed and the headset bearings were replaced. They were greased, and the headset was properly adjusted. The wheelhub bearings were all replaced, then greased and adjusted. The internal cups and cones where all those bearings travel were all deep-cleaned to provide the cleanest and smoothest surface possible. The wheels were trued, and the rims and spokes were individually cleaned. The bottom bracket was removed and cleaned. The frame was cleaned and polished. The brake calipers and levers, shifters, derailleurs, cranks and chainrings, and drivetrain were all disassembled and rebuilt. There's not a nut or bolt on the bike I haven't touched.

The bike has a Shimano Altus front derailleur, a Sram ESP 5.0 rear derailleur, and Sram ESP 5.0 grip shifters. The drivetrain has a Shimano Altus triple crankset(42-34-24t) and an 8-speed cassette(11-30t). The bike has Weinmann 519 rims. The frame is very pretty but has some small scuffs.

Why buy a walmart/target/dick's/ academy etc bike where every component on those bikes are the cheapest made and the lowest quality. Those bikes are made to last about a year...whereas vintage Trek bikes were made to last. I still have my '86 Trek.

Old grease, combined with dirt, will harden and damage the operation of the bearings. This will cause internal damage, and can make your bike dangerous(especially with the headset bearings which allow you to steer). If you're looking to buy any used bike, find out when the last time the bearings were overhauled (that's not a "tune-up"). If it has not been done in 5 yrs, I strongly recommend having it done.
