One-of-a-kind classic 1968 Dodge Dart plus many parts, less than 30K miles on engine

I special-ordered this 1968 Dodge Dart with a 273-cu.in. V8, four doors, a four-speed manual transmission and a Hurst shifter early in 1968. I wanted four doors for access and the four-speed for the pleasure of driving it and didn’t realize that they were an unusual combination. Over the years I was continually approached at gas stations by other drivers who marveled at our four-door Dart with the Hurst shifter. I don’t know how few were made in this configuration but after 56 years this must be the only one still in existence. I have the original bill of sale in my name and the broadcast sheet. It has been in storage for 33 years.

The car, including the aftermarket tachometer and cruise control, was fully functional and being driven to work every day when I drove it into the garage for the last time in 1991 after taking delivery of a newer car. I squirted oil into each cylinder, turned the crankshaft bolt manually, and put it up on blocks in my garage, where it's been for the past 33 years. Over those years the gas in the fuel system has degraded, the master-cylinder seals have lost their elasticity, and rust on the brake drums causes noise and resistance when the car is rolled. Until these problems are addressed the car is not driveable.

Engine: In 1987, at 191,000 miles the factory engine threw the timing chain, causing extensive damage. I replaced it with a rebuilt 273. After 33 years of storage that engine can still be turned over manually using the crankshaft bolt.

Fenders: After spending many years in North Carolina, the car spent nine years in northern Ohio. Salt on the roads rusted both front fenders and marred the bottom of the quarter panels during that period. I replaced the fenders with 1967 (left) and 1969 (right) Dart fenders and painted them with colors approximating the rest of the car. Both fenders appear identical to 1968 fenders except for the side lighting (which is fixed below).

Side lighting and chrome strips: 1968 was the first year that Darts had side lighting. The ’67 fender had only side reflectors and the ’69 had rectangular side lighting. I have the original 1968 round side-lighting set for restoring the front fenders to their 1968 appearance, and it is included in the parts collection that will accompany the car when it is sold (discussed below). The ’67 fender is missing its chrome strip. Two chrome strips are included in the parts collection.

Radio: I replaced the factory AM radio with an aftermarket AM/FM/cassette model and a custom wood fascia board. I retained the working original factory radio and its original plastic fascia, and they are included in the parts collection.

Parts collection: I have many boxes of parts and supplies that I have accumulated over the years comprised of well over a hundred items. These will all be included with the car when it is sold. Photos and identifications of most of these are in an Imgur gallery at the link below. Please take note of the disclaimers included as the second image in the parts collection album.

I've created Imgur album containing somewhat higher-quality versions of the photos plus additional images to go beyond Craigslist's maximum of 24. As mentioned above, I also created a second album with photos of the parts collection.
