Nikon ED 600mm manual focus f/4 only, with case and large tripod. Lens was altered before I bought it, the aperature ring was pulled out, no idea why but it still takes some great shots...with a 1.5X factor sensor the reach is 900mm. Sample images shown were taken from about 45 feet away, great bokeh from this lens.
Please consider the following:
- there is no aperture ring. It was removed before I bought it, around 2002. This means it will not "stop down" and will only shoot wide open at f4. This is not the sharpest at the edges but creates great bokeh.
- the lens is huge. It weighs about 14 pounds, so must be supported by a strong tripod, hence the inclusion of a very large Quikset video tripod. The Quikset weighs at least 20 pounds.
- there is a small amount of fungus inside the objective lens, sealed in the first chamber. It has zero impact on the images taken, none at all, but full disclosure. This is within a sealed chamber; the fungus will not 'migrate' to other lenses.
- it is a manual lens. Please be sure your Nikon body is compatible, should be no problem but worth checking.
It will come with a heavy duty carrying case. This is not a rig to take into the field casually. Consider your own uses; when I used it for a long series of hummingbird shots (from about 45 feet away) I would haul it from the porch to the deck and back, that's it. On the plus side, unless you're using a full frame sensor you're probably going to get a 1.5x factor, so you'd be shooting at 900mm.
