The Sears Craftsman 113.201890 is a vintage AC/DC stick (arc) welder — a heavy transformer-style unit built for general-purpose metal fabrication. Copper wound (not cheap aluminum)
It’s a transformer-based welder with AC and DC output (most in the 113.2018xx range were 230 A AC / 140 A DC).
It uses standard 220 V single-phase power. Uses stick electrodes (SMAW process).
What it's good at:
Mild steel and iron – Excellent for general fabrication, repair, and farm equipment work.
Stainless steel – Works fine using DC reverse polarity (DCEP) and 308 or 309 rods.
Cast iron – Accepts specialty cast-iron electrodes; preheat recommended.
Heavier metals – The transformer provides strong arc stability on thick sections (⅛–¼ in and up).
Outdoor or rough work – Durable, simple, reliable, not sensitive to wind or temperature.
The welding projects I typically work on are thinner metals. This is too much welder for me. I have 220V to test this.
