condition: excellent
make / manufacturer: Cambridge Grain Company
Hard to find antique19th Century Cambridge Grain Company wooden grain box. Hand crafted, hand forged nails and staples, with fingered joints. All original hardware and fasteners. Approximately 15" x 15" wide and 12" high with 12" handle.

Based on research, it appears the Cambridge Grain Company was located in New Zealand operating as a grain importer and exporter in the late1800's. There is little recorded of this early company (it's not believed to have any relation to the company that exits there today). Cambridge, New Zealand was settled in the late 1850's to mid 1860's when British settlers set up grain mills in the area. Grain trade flourished for sometime thereafter and I suspect that is when this bucket originated. It is very likely pre-1890's, and could be as early as 1860's-1870's based on the design, patina and fashionings.
